COMPREHENSIVE ENERGY ASSESSMENT

The primary business of Industrial Energy Engineering is conducting Energy Assessments.  An Energy Assessment is a systematic and independent examination of the uses and flow of energy through the facility.  A Comprehensive Energy Assessment examines Electricity, Natural Gas, Coal, Steam, and Industrial Gas usage.  The Energy Assessment quantifies and maps the cost of individual processes to the degree possible.  Based on this analysis, energy conservation measures are identified that will reduce the energy and cost required to perform the plant functions.  The analysis and energy projects are documented in a report that is the basis for a three year energy reduction plan.

ENERGY ASSESSMENT FOR BOILER MACT/NESHAP

The Boiler MACT/NESHAP regulations, 40 CFR Part 63, Subpart JJJJJJ, and Subpart DDDDD require a one-time Energy Assessment.  This Energy Assessment is complete with regard to the applicable steam and process heating systems.  This type of Energy Assessment differs from a Comprehensive Energy Assessment since it does not include electricity use analysis or analysis of not-applicable energy users.

TAX REDUCTION UTILITY STUDY

Industrial Energy Engineering assists clients in reducing their Sales Tax.  A company can reduce the amount of sales tax paid on electricity and natural gas if they prove by a utility study that the utility is directly used in the production process.  All states have a program and procedure that requires the submission of a sales tax exemption certificate, completed by a qualified Energy Assessor.

Chris Steffy, of Industrial Energy Engineering is a Qualified Energy Assessor for Tax Utility Studies.  We can perform the study and submit the exemption certificate claiming the correct percentage of the utility directly used and the corresponding tax exemption.

PROCESS ANALYSIS AND ENGINEERING

Industrial Energy Engineering uniquely combines analysis of the production process with Energy Engineering. This has led to the identification of cost reduction projects that are aligned with process improvement. Typically, these Process-Energy projects are the highest value with the best return on investment.

SAFETY, PROCESS HAZARDS ANALYSIS, RISK ASSESSMENT

Industrial Energy Engineering conducts Safety and Process assessments.  Many of these are Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs).  The methodology used by Industrial Energy Engineering is based on the US Department of Defense MIL spec 822D.  This method is compatible with PHA-Works software by Primatech Corporation and most other software based methods.

The purpose of Process Safety Analyses is to reduce or eliminate hazards before they can contribute to accidents.  Industrial Energy Engineering assists clients to reduce risk by conducting multiple day meetings with stakeholders from every aspect of the process to identify hazards and strategize on the best possible method of mitigation.
